History of Pinhay

Built in 1845, Pinhay House is a Grade 2 listed building situated on the Devon/Dorset border, one mile to the west of Lyme Regis. The spaciously proportioned interior of the house and its rural setting with delightful gardens and view down to Pinhay Bay provide the ideal atmosphere for a peaceful life. The Owners have succeeded in combining the luxury of the Victorian Mansion with the highest standards of care attainable in a quality Residential Home.

The house offers 22 rooms, several of which can accommodate two people if required. All rooms have their own basins, TV points and call bells; several have private bathrooms and many have telephone points. South facing rooms have superb sea views and these include the residents' Drawing Room and Dining Room.

There are two gravelled terraces at the rear of the house providing access for everyone. Lawns and well-stocked flowerbeds give a pleasant foreground to the trees of the Undercliff and the sea of Lyme (Pinhay) Bay in the background. The surrounding fields contribute to the overall feeling of space and tranquillity.

As a matter of interest, the house was featured in the film "The French Lieutenant's Woman."
