Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

•  Can I bring my furniture into Pinhay?

Yes! In fact we encourage it! Some people bring everything with them including on two occasions a Grandfather clock! Some just bring a favourite chair and their telly. Whatever you want to bring, whether it be a box of photos or your sofa as long as it will fit in your room (and most rooms are amazingly spacious) you can bring it!

•  Can I invite my friends/family to lunch?

Yes! All we ask is that you give us a little notice so that we can peel an extra potato! There will be no charge unless it is every day or its for the entire bowls club!

•  What are the "visiting hours"?

We have "free" visiting at Pinhay so friends and family can pop in whenever they feel like it. However we suggest for the comfort of others and to respect our residents privacy we suggest that visiting be not before 10am and not after 8pm. It's also best to avoid mealtimes (unless they're invited!)

•  What will happen if I become ill?

Our intention is that Pinhay will be your home for as long as you want it. Therefore illness should not mean that you have to move to a care home with nursing care, However occasionally a resident may require specialist treatment that we are unable to give and then a move may be a necessity for the sake of your well-being. Minor illness will be cared for by our staff under the guidance of your GP and district nurses. As at home your doctor may visit at Pinhay or an appointment can be made to visit the surgery.

•  Will I have to change my GP?

Not necessarily. Pinhay House is served by doctors from three or four local practices.

•  Will I be bored?

We have a full range of activities at Pinhay under the care of two activities organisers. We offer everything from painting and cooking to indoor skittles and quizzes. We have a minibus and often go out for drives in the countryside, lunches or cream teas out and visits to local attractions. We also have visiting entertainers including the Brownies and professional theatre companies.

•  Is the fee all inclusive?

The only "extras" charged to you will be things of a personal or luxury nature i.e. chiropody, hairdresser, magazines and newspapers etc.

•  Will I lose my independence?

No! We encourage everyone to continue to make their own choices and decisions for as long as they want to. We hope you will carry on with your life as you know it for as long as you desire. We will provide as much or as little help as you require.

•  Can I bring my cat?

Yes! We try to accommodate all much-loved pets, please talk to us when visiting.

•  Can I bring my car??

We do have parking space for several cars. Please talk to us when you visit!
